MDC PRESIDENT RECEIVES IFB WORLD OF DREAMERS AWARD
Distinction presented to visionaries whose keen insight has contributed to the cultural, economic, and/or social development of South Florida
MIAMI, FL, November 2, 2007 – Miami Dade College President, Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón received the IFB World of Dreamers Award from Nelson Alvarado, President and CEO, of International Finance Bank (IFB), on Nov. 1, during a reception and awards ceremony at the IFB Brickell Branch. Also tabbed to receive the special distinction were retired banker and community leader Carlos J. Arboleya Sr., Mindy Cassel, Ph.D., founder of the Children’s Bereavement Center, and Terence Riley, director of the Miami Art Museum. The award recognizes visionaries whose keen insight has contributed to the cultural, economic, and/or social development of South Florida.
“It is a pleasure and an honor to recognize these visionary leaders of our community,” said Alvarado. “The objective of the IFB World of Dreamers program is to contribute to the progress of South Florida by rewarding its great dreamers and sponsoring events that celebrate their contributions.” He added that IFB is investing in the dreams of South Florida customers and the community through the IFB World of Dreamers Program, which includes the awards presentation as well as sponsorship of other cultural events such as the recent International Storytelling Festival (Cuenteros) and activities held at the IFB branches.
“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of our hardworking faculty and students who inspire and impress me every single day,” said Dr. Padrón.
Eduardo J. Padrón, Ph.D. is President of Miami Dade College, the nation’s largest institution of higher education with more than 165,000 students. He is widely recognized as a leading voice in American higher education and is often called upon to serve on national and international education policy forums. Under his leadership, Miami Dade College has become a national model for academic excellence, cultural programming and community support.
Dr. Padrón has received numerous awards and distinctions including recognition from several nations, several Presidential appointments and honors from his peers. Most recently, he received the 2007 Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Humanitarian Award from the Mercy Foundation.
