GRAINGER AND MIAMI DADE COLLEGE PARTNER TO SUPPORT LOCAL TRADE STUDENT
Company Awards Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship to Local Resident

MIAMI, Oct. 4, 2007 – Grainger, a leading distributor of facilities maintenance supplies to businesses across South Florida for more than 60 years, recently awarded a Tools for Tomorrow scholarship to Miami Dade College Homestead Campus student Dariusz Niworowski, during a presentation at Grainger’s facility located at 2255 NW 89th Place, in Doral, Fla.

“We believe investing in students like Dariusz is one of the best ways to invest in the future of South Florida,” said Dave Smetana, Regional Branch Services Vice President, Grainger. “We are proud to continue our tradition of supporting the industrial trades by partnering with Miami Dade College on our Tools for Tomorrow scholarship program.”

Niworowski, 46, is studying electrical power technology at MDC’s Homestead Campus.  A resident of Key Largo, Fla., he was nominated by the school’s faculty to receive the award. His instructors describe him as an exceptional student with excellent problem-solving skills and a good role model for others involved in industrial trade curriculum.  Niworowski will receive a $2,000 scholarship and, upon successful completion of his degree, a specialized Westward® tool package from Grainger to support him in his future career.

“I have always been fascinated by science and strive to learn as much as possible in order to stay up to speed with advances in technology,” said Niworowski. “I’d like to use the knowledge and skills gained through the Electrical Power Technology program at Miami Dade College to teach others. I am honored to receive the Tools for Tomorrow scholarship and grateful for Grainger’s generous support.”

Grainger and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) partnered to create the Grainger Tools for Tomorrow scholarship program in 2006. The program helps students in the industrial trades who have demonstrated drive, commitment and leadership, realize their educational goals. The scholarship awards outstanding students at nine AACC member schools across the country with a $2,000 scholarship towards their second year of school and a Grainger tool package upon successful completion of their technical education program. To date, 16 students have received scholarships as part of this program.  This is the first year a Miami Dade College student has received this award.

“Through these scholarships, Grainger is showing, in a very tangible way, the value it places on education and the community,” said CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis. “These scholarships will not only benefit the individuals who receive them, they will also benefit their communities and the industrial trade industry. What better way to build a pool of highly skilled, educated workers than to provide educational opportunities to support them. Grainger is doing just that.”

Grainger currently operates out of eight locations in South Florida, including Pompano, West Palm Beach, Pembroke, Hialeah, Boca Raton, Davie, and two locations in Miami.  The company recently made significant investments in its local operations to enhance service to customers by adding two new locations (Boca Raton and Davie), relocating several existing facilities to more convenient and accessible locations, and expanding and enhancing others to position more of the products local businesses need to maintain, repair and operate their facilities closer to them.
