EDUARDO PADRÓN TO RECEIVE PRESTIGIOUS MONSIGNOR BRYAN O. WALSH
HUMANITARIAN AWARD
MIAMI, Aug. 29, 2007 – Miami Dade College President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón has been chosen to receive the 2007 Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Humanitarian award. The award will be bestowed upon Dr. Padron at the Mercy Foundation Gala on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the InterContinental Hotel in downtown Miami.
The Mercy Foundation is the principal fundraising arm of Mercy Hospital. The Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Humanitarian Award was instituted by the foundation to recognize an individual who has exhibited a deep sense of commitment to our community. In particular, the recipient is one whose dedication encompasses the greatest attributes of humanity – love, compassion, hope and opportunity.
“I’m honored to be the recipient of such a special award that bears the name of a man who did so much in this community especially for immigrants,” Dr. Padrón said. “Miami Dade College is a beacon of light in this community, providing opportunities that change lives. I am proud to represent the college, and this award is really a testament to the dedicated faculty, staff and students who continually strive for excellence.”
Miami Dade College is the nation’s largest institution of higher education, with eight campuses enrolling more than 165,000 students. MDC president Eduardo J. Padrón serves as chief administrative and academic officer. He is nationally respected for his advocacy for underserved populations in higher education, innovative teaching and learning strategies, streamlined administrative procedures, and focus on support for student success.
