THE JAZZ AT WOLFSON PRESENTS VISITING ARTIST SERIES KICKS-OFF ITS 2007-2008 SEASON
Miami, October 29, 2007 – The Jazz at Wolfson Presents Visiting Artist Series begins its new 2007-2008 season on Wednesday, Oct. 31 with a performance by the MDC Jazz Faculty Quintet. Performers include Ed Calle, saxophone; Mike Di Liddo, guitar; Jim Gasior, piano; Rick Doll, bass; and George Mazzeo, drums.
The popular Jazz at Wolfson Presents Series features renowned jazz artists who perform for Miami Dade College (MDC) students, faculty and staff, and the downtown community. Running October through April, the monthly concerts take place on Wednesdays at noon at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, building 3, room 3210.
This year’s guest artists will include guitarist Steve Erquiaga, trumpeter Barry Ries, bassist David Friesen, saxophonist Antonio Hart, and violinist Sara Caswell. Past featured artists have included James Moody, Eric Alexander, Adam Nussbaum, Bobby Watson, Danny Gottlieb, Rufus Ried, and David Hazeltine.
In addition to their performances, visiting artists work with the jazz students in workshops and master classes.
“The series, now in its ninth season, has been a strong addition to the jazz studies program at the College. Students are able to experience significant jazz performances by active jazz artists,” says Dr. Michael Di Liddo, MDC jazz music professor and series director. “Having these performances has also added to the cultural offerings in the downtown community. These noon concerts offer a lunchtime activity for those that work in the city. What a great way to spend your lunch break!”
Jazz at Wolfson Presents is sponsored by the Department of Arts and Philosophy at the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College. Additionally, the series is funded with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners through the Hannibal Cox Jr. Cultural Grants Program.
