Miami, FL Oct. 24, 2007 – Major League standout and Miami Dade College (MDC) alumnus, Placido Polanco, and several others, including former MDC newspaper advisor, Peter Townsend, will be inducted into the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) Hall of Fame Nov. 16, at the FCCAA’s annual convention in Orlando.

Inductees were selected by their peers for outstanding contributions and dedicated service made to the FCCAA and its member colleges. Miami Dade College is among the most successful college athletics programs in the country, with numerous national, state and conference championships, and many awards and distinctions throughout the 45 year history of the program.

Polanco is the second baseman for the Detroit Tigers and was the 2006 American League Championship Series MVP. He also set a Major League record this past season for most fielding attempts without an error. In fact, he went 147 consecutive games without an error, a record for a second baseman. He played for MDC’s squad from 1993 to 1995.

“Our student athletes, coaches, staff and administrators truly raise the bar for others to follow and continuously bring positive exposure to Miami Dade College. We are extremely proud of Placido, Peter and all the honorees,” said Jim Cox, MDC’s athletics director.
