MDC’S DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES OFFICIALLY WELCOMES NEW MEMBER, NAMES VICE CHAIR, THANKS OUTGOING TRUSTEE

Miami, October 16, 2007 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) District Board of Trustees officially welcomed a new member, named a vice chair and bid adieu to a cherished outgoing trustee at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007.   

Prominent Miami attorney and community leader Robert H. Fernandez officially joined the MDC District Board of Trustees after being sworn in at Tuesday’s meeting by Honorable Joseph P. Farina, chief judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court.  Fernandez, who was recently appointed by Governor Charlie Crist, is an attorney with the renowned national firm of Akerman Senterfitt. He specializes in the areas of disaster preparedness, recovery, commercial policy and litigation. As former Deputy General Counsel for the Executive Office of the Governor, Fernandez assisted with pending litigation, executive orders, legislative bills, and public records law, among other legal issues. He is a graduate of Columbia University and New York University School of Law.

Peter W. Roulhac also publicly accepted Governor’s Crist’s reappointment to the Board, as well as his fellow Board members’ nomination to serve as the new vice-chairman of the Board.  Roulhac, CEO of the Orange Bowl Foundation, is also a 30-year veteran of community involvement, including service with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, U.S. Treasury Department, president of the Private Industry Council of Dade County and vice-president of Equal Opportunity and Human Resource Policy at Southeast Bank. 

Hank Klein is exiting MDC’s District Board of Trustees after serving for eight years. Klein was honored by his colleagues and was awarded with an Honorary Lifetime Friend membership to the Miami Book Fair International (MBFI).  Klein will continue serving the community as chair of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re all doing something special here; we are truly the people’s college.  Thank you for an experience I will never forget,” said Klein.
