FREE RECITAL BY MDC’S INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED GUITAR FACULTY
MIAMI, FL, Oct. 17, 2006 — The internationally renowned guitar faculty at Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus will perform a Faculty Guitar Recital on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 7:00 p.m. at the Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104 St., Fascell Hall, room K-413. The program, which features some of South Florida’s most accomplished and exciting guitarists, is free and open to the public.
MDC guitar faculty members who will perform include:
Jose Adán – an accomplished classical guitarist who studied with the late Juan Mercadal, one of the world’s great classical guitarists, has performed in master classes with Pepe Romero. He received bachelor of music and master’s of music degrees from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, and joined the faculty at Miami Dade College in 1989, where he now chairs the guitar department. Adán has written a book on guitar technique, and counts among his students the award-winning Sebastian Fox, who won the Music Teachers National Association national competition.
Tom Lippincott – a native of New Jersey is a leading jazz guitarist who has performed world-wide and now leads the Tom Lippincott Trio and co-leads the group Jazz Nexus with percussionist/pianist David Schanzer. He earned a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from the University of North Texas, and a master’s of music degree in jazz performance from the University Of Miami Frost School Of Music. Lippincott teaches jazz guitar at MDC and at the New World School of the Arts.
Carlos Molina – after graduating in 1969 from the National Conservatory and the University of Havana with degrees in music and international law, Molina has gone on to enjoy an unparalleled international performance career that includes appearances in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the U.S. as well as Madrid, Prague, Warsaw, Budapest, Mexico City and Santo Domingo, to name a few. He has served as a juror in more than 25 international competitions and has given countless master classes. In 1987, Molina established the guitar program at Florida International University and founded the Miami Classical Guitar Society, one of the most active societies in the U.S. He is an adjunct faculty member at MDC.
Sandy Poltarack – jazz guitarist, has performed live with such stars as Frank Sinatra, Jr., Little Anthony and the Imperials, Michael Feinstein, Lainie Kazan, Chita Rivera, Tommy Tune, Rosemary Clooney, Donna Summer, Paloma San Basilo and Raphael, and with world-class musicians like Pete Minger, Ira Sullivan, Vince Maggio, and many more. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Poltarack studied with noted guitarists Leon Block, Don Demarco and jazz guitarist Ted Dunbar. He is an adjunct faculty member at MDC.
In a program to be announced from the stage, the guitar faculty will perform favorites from classical and jazz guitar repertoire, accompanied by percussionist Jack Ciano and Rafael Valencia.

The Faculty Guitar Recital is part of “On Stage,” the official concert series of the Music, Theater and Dance Department at MDC’s Kendall Campus, which combines the talents of the department’s faculty and students to feature accomplished artists and rising stars. Each season, “On Stage” presents an exciting line-up of programs that encompass each of the performing arts, from jazz and gospel music, to theatrical realism and experimental dance. Performances are always free and open to the public.
