HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH KICKS-OFF AT MDC’S NORTH CAMPUS HONORING ITS STUDENTS WITH CARNIVAL OF NATIONS
MIAMI, Sept. 27, 2007 – Miami Dade College’s North Campus will begin celebrating Hispanic Heritage month by honoring its students. The annual Student Appreciation Day will be combined with the Carnival of Nations to create a grand cultural celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 3, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at MDC’s North Campus, 11380 N.W. 27 Ave., Miami.
The Carnival of Nations will be marked by a spectacular processional showcasing the flags of the Americas. The processional will weave along walkways throughout the campus to the main stage located at the lakeside area of the Lehman Theater. Members of the Dade Christian School Symphonic Band will perform, as well as traditional and contemporary Latin music artists.
The event will also feature an array of tantalizing cuisine, such as arroz con pollo a la chorrera, hot corn arepas and non-alcoholic daiquiris, chillers and tropical coladas.
“We embrace the diversity of cultures represented in the student body at the North Campus, as it creates a vibrant and refreshing learning ground for collaboration and understanding,” said North Campus President Dr. Jose A. Vicente. “This auspicious occasion demonstrates our high regard and appreciation for our students, while providing them with a most enriching experience.”
The community, along with students and staff are invited to take part in this special celebration of student pride and Hispanic tradition.
