TWO SHORES - CUBA: THE ISLAND OR MIAMI? “THE LAST SEPHARDIC”
MIAMI, Oct. 9, 2007 – Miami Dade College’s InterAmerican Campus in collaboration with the Instituto Cultural Florida-Israel, and the National Association of Cuban American Educators, as part of the Two Shores Series, presents the documentary “The Last Sephardic”.
The documentary will be screened on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Tower Tower Theater, Cinema 1, 1508 SW 8 Street, Miami .
The Last Sephardic is about the experiences of Eliezer Papo, a young Rabi from Sarajevo and his pilgrimage to Greece, the Caribbean, Turkey, and Spain. In the documentary, Papo, a professor of Ladino or Hebrew-Spanish, is in search for the places where his ancestors lived. The panel discussion will be in Spanish only and moderated by Dr. Mercedes C. Sandoval. Guest panelists Elias Barraca, Dr. Federico Justiniani and Dr. Eduardo Zayas Bazán will discuss the film and the Sephardic presence in Cuba.
Light refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m. Metered parking is free after 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
