UNIVISION DONATES $250,000 TV SET TO MIAMI DADE COLLEGE’S SCHOOL OF ENTERTAINMENT AND DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
MIAMI, May 31, 2007 – Miami Dade College (MDC) students in the School of Entertainment and Design Technology will soon have a new $250,000 television set to practice and perfect their craft.
The set, which is expected to be fully installed this fall, was donated to MDC by Univision Television Inc. Univision and MDC have shared a fruitful partnership over the years that has resulted in opportunities for students to work in the television production field. Internships have included positions as floor managers, camera operators, writers and audio operators.
“The new television set allows for a more professional setting to season our future production and on-air talent. This is an extremely generous donation from Univision and shows its commitment to nurturing new talent,” said MDC North Campus President Dr. José A. Vicente.
The set will include a state-of-the-art backdrop, wood platforms, a riser, a news desk and set-lighting – all amenities you would find in your typical professional television set. The set will replace a refurbished one that was installed in the early part of this decade.
Cable-TAP (Television Access Project), which has been administered by and housed at MDC’s North Campus since October of 2003, will also utilize the set. Cable-TAP provides non-profit organizations and educational institutions in Miami-Dade County access to cable television airtime. Programming is broadcast to all cable television subscribers in the county.
“I’m looking forward to the newly designed set to enhance the look of Cable-TAP programming,” said Barry Gordon, executive director of Cable-TAP.
