MIAMI DADE COLLEGE’S NORTH CAMPUS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS TO OFFER WEEKEND BUSINESS INSTITUTE

MIAMI, September 20, 2006 – Are you a business minded person with a busy lifestyle struggling to find time to earn a degree in your field?

Miami Dade College’s North Campus will soon offer a weekend option to better fit your tight schedule.  On Friday, October 6, 2006 MDC’s North Campus will kick-off its Weekend Business Institute with courses offered on Fridays and Saturdays.

The 64 credit program is geared at opening doors to students in various industries including business, transportation and warehousing. Upon completion of the curriculum, graduates will receive an Associate in Applied Science degree in Business Administration.  Graduates can expect to enter such areas such as customer relations, human resource management, sales, marketing and financial management among others.

“The Weekend Business Institute offers flexibility and accessibility to students who might otherwise not be able to take our courses because of time demand constraints,” said Teddie Laing, the department chairperson for the School of Business at Miami Dade College’s North Campus. “We look forward to reaching a wider-audience and educating the most talented professionals in the field.”

This workforce development program is designed to build and enhance valuable workplace skills that prepare graduates for immediate employment in a wide-range of industries seeking skilled and capable employees.

“The Weekend Business Institute responds to the educational needs of students to have conveniently scheduled weekend classes that lead to a College degree as well as the needs of employers to have an educated and capable labor pool from which to recruit," said Dr. José A. Vicente, North Campus President.

Among the courses offered in the institute are accounting, business writing, principles of marketing and critical thinking. Students can choose to follow the management or marketing track.
