Miami Dade College (MDC) is one of 36 Colleges and Universities that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has designated as an Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) institution. MDC students earn an Associate of Science degree while completing the FAA required Air Traffic Control Basics curriculum. The curriculum includes aviation meteorology, private pilot theory, radar and non-radar operations, and visual tower operations and the Eig-Watson School of Aviation students are trained on state-of-the-art simulation equipment.

Background
In 1990, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established the Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI) program for employment of Air Traffic Controllers. MDC was one of the original 13 institutions to receive this designation.
Qualification Process
  1. Please refer to the FAA website at www.faa.gov for more information on qualifications for air traffic control.
     
  2. Students who meet all FAA requirements and successfully complete of one the three degree programs at the Eig Watson School of Aviation including passing the School's Capstone Exam may be recommended to the FAA for hire.
     
  3. Candidates hired by the FAA continue training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City before being placed at a FAA Tower or En Route Radar facility.
