DANCE
The Dance-Arts Department is a component of the Department of Music, Theater and Dance within the Academic Affairs Division. This fine arts entity seeks to train young talented dance students who seek careers in professional dance related fields. This area of concentrated study emphasizes traditional values and formal disciplines in its training process.
Dance major students complete their program of studies and requirements at various college and universities throughout the United States. The varied backgrounds and expertise of our highly qualified professional faculty and adjunct faculty allow the students to experience a variety of dance forms from classical ballet to post-modern dance. Various performance opportunities further develop the student's training, technique, and experience. Each year dance students enjoy the opportunities to perform in selected entertainment venues and workshops.
The curriculum, while based on the traditional training of classical ballet and contemporary techniques, remains flexible to keep current with the continuous evaluation of dance related fields of work. It reflects the belief that the dance students must be proficient in a variety of dance forms and disciplines in order to compete in today's professionally related fields of dance.
All college dance courses and rehearsals are conducted in our modern, clerestory-lit, air-conditioned dance studios, that feature "sprung" floors specifically designed to meet the needs of dance students.

LEAPS AND BOUNDS
Leaps and Bounds is an Artist-in-Resident Program for Guest Choreographers and Master Teachers at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus, Dance Department.
Leaps and Bounds is an Artist-in-Resident Program that is an essential aspect of growth and development for the student body as well as the participating artist. Guest Artist provides diverse perspectives of knowledge, culture and processes for the students of Miami Dade College. At the same time, Leaps and Bounds provides professional choreographers space, place, time and bodies to investigate, evaluate and produce concepts theories and practices through the arts. The Leaps and Bounds Artist-in-Resident Program will take place during the months of October, November & December. A project of this magnitude would enhance community support and provide professional development. In addition, students would receive first hand knowledge and skill about the importance of cultural literacy through the art of dance. Students would also explore the benefits of collaborative work ethic. This residency would be open to community participation which would stimulate educational outreach and encourage civic engagement.
The residency would consist of one (1) master class at the MDC Kendall Campus and a minimum 10 minute choreographic work to be performed in the Art of Dance Concert as part of the On Stage Concert Series.
