Congress passed Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (PL93-112), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. Both laws prohibit discrimination of individuals with disabilities. While the laws are designed to protect you from discrimination on the basis of your disability, they do not give you special privileges. If you feel that you are being discriminated against, due to your disability, you may contact Dr. Joy Ruff, Director of Equal Opportunity Programs, at (305) 237-2090 on the Kendall Campus. State law SB726 allows certain students with disabilities, to be waived from a sub-test of the College-level Academic Skills Test (C.L.A.S.T.) State law HB10 enables certain eligible students with disabilities to be considered for one of the following.
- Reasonable substitution for any requirement for admission where documentation is provided that the disabled person’s failure to meet the admission requirement is related to the student’s disability.
- Reasonable substitution for any requirement for graduation or for entry into upper division university where documentation can be provided that the student’s failure to meet the requirment is related to the disability and where the failure to meet the requirement or program admission requirement does not constitute a fundamental alteration of the program.
