Musical Theatre Workshop
Instructor: Eileen Duffy-Brown
Course: MUO 1501
Miami Dade's Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop involves intensive coaching of the students enrolled as well as lecture-demonstrations and master classes on:
- Acting and Stage Movement for Singers
- Creating a Role in Opera/Musical Theater
- Effective Auditioning and Performance techniques
- Improvisation and Cold Reading
Performances of scenes from opera and musicals will evolve from the workshop experience which will give students needed stage experience to qualify for major productions.
Students will be expected to do research on the opera or show, the composer and the roles assigned during the semester. There will be a quiz at mid-term. Admission to the class is by approval of the instructor. Students must demonstrate a singing voice showing potential development for opera or musical theater.
All singers will be asked to sing a prepared song of classical or musical theater style during the first weeks of class for the purpose of learning correct audition techniques as well as enabling the instructor to evaluate each student and assign appropriate scenes for the semester.
