Dr. Rosa M. Mayorga obtained her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and PhD degrees at the University of Miami, with Susan Haack as her dissertation director. She has been a full-time professor in the philosophy department at Virginia Tech for the past several years.
Her academic interests lie in the general area of pragmatism, with most of her research focused on the philosophy of Charles Peirce. She has published articles and reviews in the Transactions of the Charles S. Peirce Society, Anthropos, Anuario Filosofico, Contemporary Pragmatism, Social Theory and Practice, and Review of Metaphysics. Her book From Realism to “Realicism:” On the Metaphysics of Charles Sanders Peirce (Lexington/Rowman and Littlefield Press)is now in its second printing.
She has been invited to present papers at conferences in England, Spain, Finland, Poland, South Korea, Brazil, and Argentina, as well as in the US. She has most recently been named a candidate to the Fulbright Specialist Roster, as well as a Visiting Scholar at Penn State.
She has served on executive, organizational, and program committees of several philosophical organizations, including the American Philosophical Association, the Charles S. Peirce Society, the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy, the Atlantic Coast Pragmatist Association, and the Jornadas “Peirce en Argentina.”
