1/16/2009 vs. Broward College
The Sharks Men’s Basketball team went on the road to Broward for the first road game in 2009 and came away with a big 101-65 victory. The Sharks led throughout the game, and ended up with six players double figures. With the win the Sharks improve to 3-0 in conference and remain undefeated on the road. The Sharks dominated in both the frontcourt and the backcourt, Sophomores Trevor Mbakwe and William Coleman combined for 33 points, 21 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots. While Sophomore Rico Pickett anchored the backcourt finishing with 18 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. " I believe we showed tonight. What can happen if this team plays for 40 minutes. Anytime you have six guys in double figures you are playing great team basketball." "We need to make sure we stay focus and continue to improve daily."
1/14/09 vs. Indian River State
The Miami-Dade College Men’s Basketball team pulled out an overtime home win versus Southern Conference Rival Indian River 94-87. Coming into the game the Sharks were ranked #2 in the State while Indian River came into the game ranked #4 in the State and having one of the longest win streaks in the Country at 12 straight games. Indian River led by as many as eight points in the second half, but the Sharks hit some big free throws down the stretch led by Red-Shirt Freshman Darnell Dodson, who finished with 29 points hitting on 13 of 15 from the charity stripe. " I was very happy with the effort and character the kids showed tonight! They battled all night long and beat a very good Indian River team. This was a great win."
1/10/2009 vs. Brevard Community College
The Miami Dade Sharks opened conference play at home versus the Brevard Titans, winning 81-62. The Sharks are now 15-2 on the season and a perfect 6-0 at home. The Sharks were led in scoring by Freshman Dwan McMillian, who finished with 20 points. On the defensive end, Sophomore center William Coleman continued to dominate, Coleman added 5 blocks, now giving him close to 70 blocks on the season, which ranks him 3rd in the country in that category. Coleman also finished with 16 points going a perfect 7 of 7 from the field. Sophomore win Anthony Phillips added 16 points, Sophomore Trevor Mbakwe pulled down a team high of 16 rebounds, and Sophomore guard James Beatty dished out 7 assists. “Overall I felt we played well, we were able to pick up the tempo on the defensive end a bit and really played hard in the second half to earn a big conference win.” |
