Stephen CowherdStephen Cowherd
Head Coach

Stephen Cowherd enters his first season as head coach.  Cowherd spent the previous two seasons as a Graduate Assistant at Florida State University under Leonard Hamilton.  During his two years in Tallahassee, Cowherd helped lead the Seminoles to back to back NCAA Tournament appearances.  Cowherd worked daily with NBA players Toney Douglas (New York Knicks), Solomon Alabi (Toronto Raptors), and Ryan Reid (Oklahoma City Thunder).  

Prior to Florida State, Cowherd spent four seasons at the University of South Alabama under John Pelphrey.  During his time in Mobile, Cowherd helped lead the Jaguars to the 2006 and 2007 Sun Belt Conference regular season championship.  The Jaguars participated in the 2006 NCAA Tournament and the 2007 NIT.  Before South Alabama, Cowherd spent one season under Rick Stansbury at Mississippi State University.  The Bulldogs won the 2003 SEC West Championship and participated in the 2003 NCAA Tournament. 

Cowherd prepped under Mike Benanti at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida.  Stephen helped the Eagles win the 2002 BCAA County Championship.  He was a three time all-state performer and three time first-team all Broward County member.  He remains the school’s all-time leader in points, assists, and steals.  

The Coral Springs, Fl native earned his B.A. degree in secondary education from the University of South Alabama in 2007, and his M.S. degree in Sport Management in 2010 from Florida State University.  Born December 16, 1983, Stephen is the son of Stan and Gina Cowherd.  He is the youngest of five children and has six nephews and four nieces.

Assistant Coach

Brian Miller enters his first season as assistant men's basketball coach. Coach Miller comes to Miami Dade College with a wealth of experience from High School, AAU, and College. He spent the past six seasons at Jacksonville State University in the Ohio Valley Conference under Mike Laplante and James Green. He served as their Graduate Assistant and Video Coordinator.

Coach Miller coached for two years years at Leeds high school, Charles Barkley's old high school where he helped them to a 2 time regional championship and a 54-16 record. Prior to coaching at Leeds, Miller spent five summers coaching on the Nike AAU Circuit. He continued coaching AAU while Coaching at Leeds helping to develop the best players out of the state of Alabama each year.

Coach Miller has coached McDonald's All-Americans DJ White, Richard Hendrix, Jackie Butler, Travis Outlaw, Mike Williams and James Lang. He has had over 80 players play Division I Basketball with more than 60% playing professionally. Brian was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He earned his B.A. degree in physical education from Jacksonville State University and is currently working on his M.S. degree in Athletic Administration. Brian is the oldest son for Herman and Paulette Miller. His Brother is named Gary Miller and his sister is named Angela Miller.

Zack SedellZack Sedell
Assistant Coach

Zack Sedell played high school basketball for 4 years at Cooper City High School, under Julius Sandi and Frank Dellapace. While attending Florida State Zack was student manager for the basketball team under Coach Leonard Hamilton.

During the 09-10 high school basketball season Zack served as an Assistant Coach at Cooper City High School under head coach Julius Sandi. Zack was born August 30th, 1989 and is the son of Michael and Cathy Sedell. His younger brother, Brandon Sedell, currently plays baseball at University of Florida.

Men's Basketball End of Season wrap up

The Miami Dade College men’s basketball team finished their 2011-2012 season 4th place in Southern Conference and qualified for playoffs during Coach Cowherd’s first year.
The Sharks were led by sophomore, Malik Jackson who averaged 17.4 pts. per game and is ranked #5 in the state and was named 1st Team All-Conference. Sophomore, Levi Noel who averaged 14.5 pts. per game and is ranked No. 17 in the state for scoring, No. 31 for Steals. Noel was also named 2nd Team All-Conference, and All-FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Team for the State. Freshman, Stephan Burrows avg. 9.6 pts per game and 4.1 assist per game, ranked No. 22 for Steals; and was named 2ndTeam All-Conference.
