On Saturday February 22, 2014 the Miami Dade College Men’s Basketball team played Palm Beach State College with the post-season was on the line. The team has been fighting hard during conference , despite a few injuries, in hope of qualifying for the FCSAA State Tournament in Ocala, FL. In order for the Sharks to qualify for the tournament they not only had to beat Palm Beach State but they had to wait on the results of another conference game to determine their fate.
The Sharks played hard the first half of the game and were only up by 9 points at the half. They had to keep the momentum up in the second half in order to close the game. The Sharks won the game 76-51 with sophomore Tre Boutilier leading the team with a double-double 23 points and 12 rebounds. Also leading the Sharks to victory was sophomore guard Darius Perkins with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals.
The Sharks not only finished the regular season with an overall record of 21-9 but they were also named the Southern Conference Runners-up and maintained their NJCAA team national rankings. They are ranked 6th in the nation in 3 pointers made, 22nd in assist per game, and 43rd in offensive rebounds per game.
The tournament will be held March 5-9 in Ocala, FL where they will face other state schools in hope of making it to the NJCAA National Tournament March 17-22, 2014 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
