After the Sunday night game was postponed due to rain, the Sharks finally got to hit the field in Grand Junction on Monday morning, taking on the No.5 Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers in their first game of the series. The Sharks walked away on top with an 8-3 victory.
MDC took an early lead on RBIs by Jose Gomez and Tony Davila before catcher Mario Amaral blasted a solo homerun in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Pioneers threatened a comeback in the top of the sixth inning, but were unable to steal the lead before MDC’s bats drove in flurry of runs to ice the game. Second baseman Darren Seferina and shortstop Bryan Colon led the team with two runs and two hits each.
Pitcher Kyle Carter, making his first start, earned the win on a 113-pitch complete game, racking up eight strikeouts while walking two and allowing only three runs (two earned) on five hits.
Next up, the Sharks hit the field against Blinn College on Tuesday (May 27) at 9:30 p.m.
