Gina De Aguero will enter her fifth season as head coach of the Miami Dade College softball team. An MDC alumni and a former member of the Lady Sharks softball team, De Aguero earned an Associates of Arts degree in Education in 1999; and later transferred to St. Thomas University to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education in Social Studies in 2003.
Under Coach De Aguero the Lady Sharks competed and placed fifth in the 2015 NJCAA National Tournament. In addition to a national appearance this year Coach De Aguero led her team to the FCSAA State Tournament finishing as the state's runners-up and the Southern Conference Champions. The Lady Sharks have claimed 3 out of 4 Conference titles in the 4 years Coach De Aguero has been coaching. This year, Gina De Aguero was named the 2015 Southern Conference Coach of the Year. Before MDC De Aguero served as the Head Coach of the Miami Lady Canes traveling team, from 2008 to 2011. In 2011 she led her team to the 2011 Fast Pitch National Championship and 2011 State Championship. She also holds State Championships in 2009 and 2010 with the Lady Canes, 2008 State Runner up, and a 5th Fast Pitch National Championship finish in 2010. De Aguero also served as an Assistant Coach at St. Brendan High School from 2005-2011, winning the 2005 & 2007 District Championships. From 2003-2005, she served as an Assistant Softball Coach at St. Thomas
Coach Lauren Schmalz enters her fourth season as the assistant/pitching coach of the Miami Dade College softball team. CoachSchmalz is part of the coaching staff that helped guide the Lady Sharks to the FCSAA State Tournament and NJCAA Nationals Tournament in the 2014-15 season.
As an alumnus of Auburn University, Schmalz earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Criminology in 2012. During her 5-year tenure at Auburn University she was named SEC Pitcher of the Week for the week of 5/2/11 and 2/20/12. Schmalz had a career record at Auburn of 35-21 and a career ERA of 2.31. CoachSchmalz served as a volunteer assistant at Auburn University for the 2012-2013 season.Schmalz also served as an assistant coach with the West Pines Diamond Dusters travel organization and with Cooper City High School.
Schmalz attended Everglades High School in Miramar, FL from 2003-2007 where she led her team to 3 district titles, 2 regional titles and 1 State Championship. She was named 2006 & 2007 Sun Sentinel Player of the Year, 2006 & 2007 Miami Herald Pitcher of the Year, and 2007 Miami Herald Female Senior of the Year. She also earned EA Sports Second Team All-American honors in 2007.
Alexandra Parrilla enters her first season as an assistant coach of the Miami Dade College softball team. Coach Parrilla is part of the coaching staff that helped guide the Lady Sharks to the FCSAA State Tournament and NJCAA Nationals Tournament for the 2014-15 season. An MDC alumni and a former member of the Lady Sharks softball team, Parilla earned an Associates of Science degree in Biology in 2014.
