CARLOS CARO
Head Coach
After serving as an assistant coach for two seasons, Carlos Caro became the Sharks head softball coach in 2005 and promptly set a single season record for most wins in the fast-pitch era. His first Lady Sharks squad ended the year with an impressive 36-14 record, while finishing as the Southern Conference Runner-Up and ranked 7th in the State by the Florida Community College Activities Association. The 2007 squad finished the season with a record of 45- 23, breaking the previously set record of wins; the team also won the Atlantic District Conference, came in second in the FCCAA State Championship and placed fifth at the NJCAA National Championship – the highest any Lady Shark Softball team has ever placed. The team also received votes twice in the season for the top 20 NJCAA national poll.
Caro is excited about this year’s team. “These girls have been playing together for quite some time; we have a strong group of sophomores and a very talented crop of freshman that are dedicated to continue making history.”
A graduate of the University of Havana with a revalidated degree from the University of Central Florida, Caro has revitalized interest in softball at Miami Dade and has built the foundation for a nationally recognized program. “I am dedicated to improving our program at Miami Dade each season,” said Caro.
Caro previously served as the Chief of the Softball Technical Committee for the Dominican Republic National Softball Team, where he led the team to a gold medal at the Central American Games Qualifier in 2005 and a bronze medal at the Central American Games in 2006. Caro was formerly an assistant coach at Cypress Bay High School and Coral Park High School as well as a volunteer assistant coach at Florida International University.
Caro lives in Miami with his wife, Lyan, and his two boys, Carlos Angel, age 3 and Nikolas Manuel, age 2. Caro is also very proud of the fact that he has just become an American citizen.
