CARLOS CARO
Head Coach
Carlos Caro has been the Head Coach of the Lady Sharks Softball Team since 2005. During his first season as head coach his team set a single season record for the most wins in the fast-pitch era in Miami Dade College history. The first Lady Shark Softball team ended the year with an impressive 36-14 record, while finishing as the Southern Conference Runner-Up and also ranked seventh in the State, by the Florida Community College Activities Association. One particular player received NJCAA ALL AMERICAN HONORS. Then the 2007 Lady Shark Softball team finished the season with a record of 45- 23, breaking the previously set record of wins; this team also won the Atlantic District Conference, finished second in the FCCAA State Championship and placed fifth at the NJCAA National Championship. The highest ranking any Lady Shark Softball team has ever achieved. The 2007 Lady Shark Softball team also received votes twice, in the season, for the top 20 NJCAA National Poll. There were two players selected to NJCAA ALL AMERICAN HONORS and one player that received ACADEMICS ALL AMERICAN. In 2008 Coach Caro Lady Shark Softball team were ranked nationally as high as 12 in the NJCAA National poll and finished the season with a record of 40-16. As well as an impressive conference play record of 18-2 to win the Southern Conference. Three players from the 2008 Lady Shark Softball team were selected to NJCAA ALL AMERICAN HONORS and three players also received ACADEMICS ALL AMERICANS.
Coach Caro is excited about the 2009 Lady Shark Softball team. "We have a very talented crop of freshmans this year who together with the returning sophomores are dedicated to continuing the Lady Sharks Legacy, Turning Good into GREAT”
A graduate of the University of Havana with a revalidated degree from the University of Central Florida, Coach Caro has revitalized interest in the softball program at Miami Dade College and has built the foundation for a nationally recognized program. "I am dedicated to improving our Lady Shark Softball program at Miami Dade each and every season," said Coach Caro.
Coach Caro previously served as the Chief of the Softball Technical Committee for the Dominican Republic National Softball Team, where he led the team to a gold medal at the Central American Games Qualifier in 2005 and a bronze medal at the Central American Games in 2006. Coach Caro was formerly an assistant coach at Cypress Bay High School and Coral Park High School. As well as a volunteer assistant coach at Florida International University.
Caro lives in Miami with his wife, Lyan, and his two boys, Carlos, age 5 and and Nikolas, age 3.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ
Assistant Coach
Omar Rodriguez grew up in South Florida and has participated in organized baseball and softball for most of his childhood and adult life. He began coaching as a volunteer coach in “Park Ball” at Glades Baseball and Softball League. He soon became an assistant coach and later head coach in the Miami Mini-Canes organization. Under his leadership his teams won or placed very highly in a number of local, state and national tournaments. In 2004 and 2006 his team placed second in State Competitions held in Lakeland, Florida. In 2005 they placed in the top 20 in Nationals in held in Colorado. He inspires team loyalty in that the core of players has remained the same for the last five years. Omar is committed to the success of his teams both on the field and off. He is particularly proud of the loyalty and appreciation his players have shown towards him. and is eager to become a positive influence in their development as successful athletes and students. In the summer of 2007 he coached an elite Miami Lady Canes 18 and under team where he had the additional responsibility to get all the team members exposed to college coaches and scouts. He has been very successful and already a number of players have committed to play for college teams.
Omar lives in Miami with his wife Niurka and their four children; Niurka age 20, Nicole age 17, Noemi age 16 and Omar age 5. He is very proud of his family and the help and support they provide.

EUGENIA FERNANDEZ
Assistant Coach
Assistant Coach Eugenia “Chiqui” Fernandez enters her 1st year as assistant coach for the Lady Sharks Softball Team. Fernandez played for the Lady Sharks for 2 years, and was a 2 time Southern Conference player. Eugenia is originally from San Andres Island, Colombia where she has participated on the Colombia National Team for over 8 years. She has helped the team win a Central American Championship, place 2nd in the Central American Games, and qualified for the World Championship 3 times. Fernandez attended Bolivariano Academico Diurno for high school. She has 10 siblings: 6 brothers, and 4 sisters.
