Champions!
Congratulations to the MDC Sharks Baseball Team: Southern Conference Championship!!
The Sharks finish the season with a team record of 44-12, 18-7 in conference. The Sharks finished the season ranked 8th in the NJCAA Polls, and were eliminated from post-season play in the semifinals of the Gulf District tournament by Manatee CC, 3-2 in 10 innings on May 12th.
Seven Miami Dade College Baseball
Draftees Ink Professional Contracts
Eight Miami Dade College baseball student-athletes were drafted in the recent Major League Baseball draft, and seven of those students have signed professional contracts, the highest number ever in the history of the esteemed program. Miami Dade College lead all two-year colleges in the nation with the number of
players drafted from one team and the number of players signed from one team.

The only Miami Dade College draftee that did not sign was freshman pitcher Reynaldo Cotilla, who was selected in the 32nd round by Kansas City.
Another Miami Dade College alumni was also drafted and signed, pitcher Elih Villanueva, who transferred to Florida State University, was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 27th round.
Miami Dade College has a long and prosperous history in baseball. Miami Dade Teams have captured 19 Southern Conference Titles, four FCCAA State Championships, and have partiticapted in the NJCAA JUCO World Series on four occasions, most recently in 2001. Miami Dade has also won two NJCAA National Championships in 1964 and 1981.
The Miami Dade baseball program has produced countless Major League Baseball standouts, including 2007 American League All-Star second baseman Placido Polanco, All-Stars Mike Piazza, Bucky Dent, Steve Carlton and Mickey Rivers, Golden Spikes Award winner Alex Fernandez, as well as Jamie Navarro, John Cangelosi, Orlando Palmeiro, Raul Ibanez, Kiko Calero and Alex Sanchez. Over 400 Miami Dade baseball standouts have been signed with professional baseball, while 57 have reached the Major Leagues, the most representation in the Majors from any college or university in the country except for the University of Southern California.
