The success of the Minority Capacity Development Program led to the continuation of the initiative through the Small Business Education Program. Like the Minority Capacity Development Program, the Small Business Education Program offered a series of seminars to small business owners in the areas of Allapattah, Little Haiti, Overtown, Liberty City, and Wynwood/Edgewater. The seminars were held on Saturday’s from February to March of 2009 at the Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus. Topics included financing, government contracts, business law, taxes and accounting, marketing and sales, and technology for business. The culminating event for this program was the Small Business Expo that allowed all participants in the program to showcase their business at the Wolfson Campus. Exhibitors in the expo were from industries such as in art, real estate and construction, fashion, and food. Overall, the expo had provided the business owners the opportunity to gain exposure in the community as well as inform the public of their goods and services. |
