Dr. A. Cruz has a vast experience in the areas of general business, management, accounting, and taxes. Her job experience has been in different segments of private industry, i.e., service, retailing, and manufacturing, as well as in the federal government sector, performing the function of a field examiner for the Internal Revenue Service. Throughout her yeas in academia, Dr. Cruz has made use of her real world experience to show the students the connection between the theory and its application in a business environment.
Specifically, her first involvement with service-learning was in her TAX 2000 class. By designing a new methodology of teaching and incorporating different procedures to the already existing course, she was able to create a service learning model that enhanced the students’ learning abilities and reinforced their civic and ethical responsibilities. She has been able to share the intricacies of this model with other colleges and universities. Other innovative projects developed by her have been in the areas of service learning in accounting, financial literacy, ethics, forensic accounting, learning communities, and cooperative learning
