ESOL Class
The ESOL program at MDC prepares non-native English speakers to obtain employment, increase work-related skills to obtain a better job, and citizenship. The program prepares students to continue their education in degree or certificate programs.

Is anything required of me before I enroll?

You must bring your Social Security Card and Florida State I.D or Driver's License.

What do I need to do to start taking classes?

  1. You must take the CASAS test to be placed in an appropriate English class. There is a one-time fee of $10 to take the CASAS test.

  2. Bring a copy of your results to a program advisor who will introduce you to the program and develop a student success plan for you.

Will computers be used in this program?

Included in the English language program is access to the computer labs for computer skills training and for additional English language practice on a wide selection of software resources.  Trained ESOL tutors will be available at the labs during, before, and after class.

Do you offer both morning and evening classes?

Classes and labs are available during the morning, afternoon, and evening.

What is the cost of the program?

There is a small tuition charge for enrolling in the program; in addition, buying the assigned textbook for your English course is required.

What is the duration of the ESOL program?

The duration of the program depends on the initial placement of the individual student. There are seven levels of instruction. The average student spends about eight months to complete the ESOL program.
