Susan Harwood Training Grant

Safety first signOSHA awards grants to nonprofit organizations on a competitive basis through its Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. Grants are awarded to provide training and education programs for employers and workers on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in their workplaces. OSHA approved topics include Employee Rights and Employer’s Responsibilities, Construction Focus Four, Ergonomic Hazards, Fall Protection/Prevention in Construction and General Industry, Heat Illness Prevention, and Employer’s Responsibilities in Protecting Temporary Workers.

Miami Dade College, North Campus, School of Continuing Education and Professional Development received a Susan Harwood Grant to:

  • Develop a Needs Assessment to identify the health and safety issues for "at risk" populations in Miami-Dade and Broward County.
  • Develop curriculum for employers and employees in Construction and General Industry in Egnlish and Spanish.
  • Schedule free onsite Health and Safety training sessions customized to the needs of the employers and employees in the service areas.

At the end of your training session you will:

  • Have an overview of employee rights and employer’s responsibilities under OSHA.
  • Be able to recognize workplace safety hazards and learn about how to minimize injuries in construction and general industry.
  • Be able to identify and properly use Personal Protection Equipment in order to avoid accidents and injuries.
