This course is for both film and digital photographers! Learn about the best film choices, the best digital settings, proper focal lengths and apertures for the best perspectives, as well as depth of field for different types of portraits. Psychology, posing, locations, composition, and backgrounds will be discussed. There will be six sessions including two field trips to photograph both individuals and groups.

Learn all about bird photography, from flight shots to portraits. Emphasis will be placed on techniques to get quality images. Hands on instruction will be provided during the field trips and critiques will evaluate students’ progress. Students will need a telephoto lens (minimum 200 mm) and a tripod. Learn more advanced techniques for bird photography such as flight, flash, back light and panning. Students will progress according to their individual level. Tripod and medium to long telephoto lens required (flash recommended). Class will consist of lecture and “in the field” instructions.

High dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of luminance between light and dark areas of a scene than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows. HDRI is commonly used in the real estate and architectural photography markets due to its advantage of properly exposing both window and room areas simultaneously. It is also used in the creation of landscapes and indoor scenes with windows.

Prerequisite: Photography 2. Outdoor Photographic Portraiture is strongly recommended as a prerequisite. This course is for both film and digital photographers. Students get a brief introduction to strobe lighting and to artificial continuous lighting. There will be two indoor shoots and one outdoor shoot employing the basic lighting equipment and techniques discussed in the classroom.

This is a hands-on course where students will learn about bouquet fashions, the latest trends, and technical applications. Center pieces, delivery and setup, and pre-ordering flowers for your event are some of the topics that will be covered. All flowers are included in the fee.

This is an advanced level course. Learn about high end up-to-date floral techniques paired with beautiful and exotic blooms (such as orchids, hydrangeas, lilies, etc.). Students will be working on large scale designs. All flowers are included in the fee.

This course will cover care and handling techniques, color application and coordination, marketing techniques and much more. This is a hands-on course where students will work on round and oblong centerpieces, free style design, and symmetrical and asymmetrical arrangements. All flowers are included in the fee. Learn all the inside information you need to know on how to start your floral business. This course will cover locations, inventory, hiring employees, insurance, management, etc. It is recommended that students bring a tape recorder.

Drawing will be explored as a means of investigating and as a way of seeing and understanding. Learn to perceive edges, spaces, relationships, lights and shadows. Use of line, shape, form, contour drawing, positive/negative space, proportions/spatial relationships, and value will be explored.

This course is a continuation of Basic Drawing 1, and basic drawing foundation is required. Students will further strengthen and refine drawing skills, and gain more control over how to translate what is perceived. Continuing with pencil, and introducing the charcoal medium, students will draw from still-lives and work on a portrait study. We will focus on foreshortening, linear and visual perspective, tonal value using charcoal, compositional elements, and continue to refine proportion and spatial relationship skills. Ultimately, students will be able to approach a wide variety of subject matter, from any perspective, and render a more confident drawing.

Beginners receive basic instruction including information on mixing color, composition and design. More advanced students can work independently. Individual instruction is given to all students. All levels are welcome.

Experience the satisfaction of using one of the most versatile mediums in art! Pastels are easy to use and are a natural transition from drawing to painting. Fee includes some materials.

This 7 week course combines classroom instructions with outdoor photo safaris, followed by thoughtful critiques. Topics include aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings.
