This course is open to the general public as a recreational class offered for the continued enjoyment of music. The student is expected to attend all classes and be present at all scheduled performances, on an off campus. The community Chorus also performs out of state as well as out of the country. The most important aspect of this course is the appreciation and enjoyment each student derives from the practice and performance of choral singing.

This class is an introductory sight singing/music theory class. Its aim is to help students develop sight singing skills, and at the same time, to become familiar with music notation. This class is designed to take someone from “singing in the shower” to becoming a full-fledged member of a singing ensemble such as the Community Chorus at MDC. Topics to be covered include: Key signatures, Time signatures, Solfege – movable “do”, Stepwise melodic reading, Melodic progressions with skips, Rhythm pattterns.
