Day of Ceremony

Graduating students should arrive at 6:30 p.m. and follow the signs to the registration area inside the Watsco Center Fieldhouse. All graduates must bring their MDC ID, name card, cap, gown, and tassel. Purses, handbags, and photographic equipment cannot be carried into the graduate seating area or across the stage. It is suggested that graduates safeguard these items by leaving them with a family member or guest in the audience. Seating for graduates is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests will be able to enter the Watsco Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will begin promptly at 8:00 p.m. and is expected to conclude at 10:30 p.m. We ask that everyone remain seated until the end of the ceremony. Cell phones must be turned off or set to vibrate mode during the ceremony.

The Kendall Campus 2019 Commencement Ceremony will be held at the University of Miami Watsco Center (1245 Dauer Dr. Coral Gables, FL 33146) on Saturday, May 4, at 8:00 p.m.

Due to printing deadlines, only those Miami Dade College students who applied for graduation by the deadline of Monday, March 25 will have their names listed in the Commencement Program. Students may apply for graduation in the Advisement Office located in Building R, Room 243. Please call 305-237-2125 for assistance.

Eligibility

You are eligible to participate in Commencement 2019 if your program requirements were met this academic year, or will be met by the end of Summer 2019. If you meet this requirement, we urge you to join us in recognizing this educational benchmark.

Caps, Gowns, and Tickets

A limited number of guest tickets are available for our Commencement ceremony. Tickets will be distributed in the Kendall Bookstore beginning Tuesday, April 23rd on a first-come, first-served basis.

To pick up your cap, gown, and 4 (four) guest tickets, present your MDC ID at the Kendall Campus Bookstore during the following dates and times:

Tuesday, April 23 - 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. (Grad Rally)
Wednesday, April 24 - 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.
Thursday, April 25 - 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.
Friday, April 26 - 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Saturday, April 27 - 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.
Monday, April 29 - 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.
Tuesday, April 30 - 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.
Wednesday, May 1 - 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.

There is no fee for the cap and gown if you have applied for graduation. The cap and gown are yours to keep. View additional items that will be available for purchase during Grad Rally.

Overflow Guest Tickets for Watsco Center Fieldhouse

Kendall students are able to pick up their cap and gown and attend Commencement on Saturday. Due to the limited number of guest tickets, an overflow room will be provided for guests of who were unable to obtain general admission tickets. The overflow room will provide a live broadcast of the 8:00 pm ceremony. In order to gain access to the overflow flow room, guests must pick up their overflow guest tickets at the following location:

Time: Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Honor Regalia

Honor regalia will be available for pick up in the bookstore between April 23 - May 1. All graduates and degree candidates who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 GPA or higher will receive special recognition as Honor Graduates. Honor students that have applied for graduation during the Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Summer 2019 terms will receive the following regalia free of charge: 3.5-3.69 GPA Honors Tassel; 3.7-4.0 GPA Honors Tassel & Honors Cord. Students must bring their degree audits and picture ID to pick up their items from the bookstore.

Veterans

Graduating student veterans may pick up special cords to wear during commencement in the Bookstore during cap and gown distribution days. Veterans will be recognized during the commencement ceremony.

Bachelor of Applied Science Graduates

Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) students may pick up their graduation medals at the School of Business (R427) between April 30 - May 4, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Students must have a valid MDC ID to pick up these items.

Special Needs and Individuals with Disabilities

The Watsco Center is ADA compliant. Handicapped-accessible areas are reserved inside for our guests with special needs. For guests’ family members and friends, there is ample general seating near the special needs sections. Handicapped-accessible and special needs parking will be available in the lot across from the Watsco Center on Walsh Avenue. No special parking pass is needed for the Special Needs Lot. For guests with special needs and those who cannot walk long distances, we recommend parking in the Special Needs Lot or the Pavia Garage. Wheelchairs are NOT provided by Miami Dade College or the Watsco Center. Students can call the ACCESS Department for additional requests at 305.237.2767.

Photography

Professional photographers will photograph all graduates as they walk across the stage. A proof of the photo and a blank order form will be emailed to the graduate’s listed address. PERSONAL PHOTOS MAY NOT BE TAKEN OF INDIVIDUAL GRADUATES AS THEY CROSS THE STAGE.

Directions, Parking, and Public Transportation

Wolfson Campus Parking Garage (Free Parking)

Parking is available for free at the Wolfson Campus Parking Garage, located on NE 5th Street, between NE First and NE Second Avenues. Once you park, exit the Parking Garage, walk across the street, and take the Metromover (no charge) to Government Center Station, and then take the Metrorail to University Station. The Wolfson Campus Garage will be open from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight).  We strongly encourage guests to utilize the Metro Rail system to avoid traffic. Metro Rail fare is $2.25 per person each way, and runs from 5 a.m. until 12 a.m. (midnight). Weekend service runs every 30 minutes until closing.

Watsco Center Parking (Charges Apply)

There will be ample parking in the Ponce de Leon Garage, Pavia Garage, and the parking lots on Walsh Avenue and Dickinson Drive at the Watsco Center; however, we strongly encourage guests to utilize the Metro Rail system to avoid traffic. If you decide to drive directly to the Watsco Center, parking is available right in front of the venue in the North and South Serpentine Lots. Please be aware that the city of Coral Gables police will strictly enforce off-campus parking regulations.

Please note that parking at the Watsco Center will be charged at $1.50 per hour per vehicle. Methods of payment for parking include the PayByPhone app, which has a $0.27 transaction fee. Parking session of 5-hours or more converts to all day parking at $8.00. On-foot pay station is $1.50/hourly; no transaction fee. Using PayByPhone or the on-foot pay stations automatically registers the vehicle's license plate with the University of Miami.

Directions from US-1 approaching from the north:

Turn right onto South Alhambra Circle. You will come to an immediate traffic light; turn right onto Ponce de Leon.

Directions from US-1 approaching from the south:

Turn left onto South Alhambra Circle. Get into the right lane. You will come to an immediate traffic light; turn right onto Ponce de Leon. Once on Ponce de Leon, make the first left turn onto Dickinson Drive. Take Dickinson Drive to the Watsco Center, signage for parking will be visible.

Security

All persons entering the Watsco Center are subject to a security screening and/or inspection of belongings.  Failure to consent will result in a denial to enter the venue.

For security reasons, the following items will not be allowed in the Watsco Center: large bags, noise makers, large cameras, tripods, coolers, balloons, banners, and baby strollers.
