Description:
This blended workshop offers four modules that provide information, tools and resources consistent with the policies and procedures of the MDC Gordon Rule requirements. The first module is an overview of the Gordon Rule Policies and Procedures. The second module provides instruction on developing rubrics for writing assessments. The third module provides strategies for using the writing skills rubric to assess college-level writing. The fourth module provides resources for incorporating and assessing writing skills in Gordon Rule courses. At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be familiar with Gordon Rule requirements and will have gained the knowledge, skills, and practice to better assess college-level writing skills consistent with the MDC Gordon Rule Policies and Procedures. 
 
 Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Identify and explain the Gordon Rule writing requirements at Miami Dade College
• Demonstrate how standard criteria for writing assignments coupled with holistic assessment will ensure student writing meets college standards
• Embed the descriptors for the Gordon Rule Rubric into a variety of college-level writing assignments in Gordon Rule courses
• Design a customized discipline-specific rubric for writing assessments
• Explain practical applications of online teaching resources that integrate the MDC Gordon Rule policies and procedures for writing courses
• Develop a lesson plan that incorporates college-level writing criteria
• Apply a rubric with the Gordon Rule criteria for college-level writing to assess student writing assignments at different holistic score levels

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop) 

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
