Description:
The Virtual College Certification is an 8-hour online workshop required
for faculty teaching Virtual College courses. It is designed to
provide and overview to the Virtual College's procedures and guidelines
for teaching and managing courses effectively and to preparing a course
for online delivery.
Participants may earn up to 8 hours towards their professional
development requirements by successfully completing the Certification
workshop. It is highly recommended that faculty enroll only if they have
been assigned a Virtual College course to teach in the next term.
Faculty are expected to have mastered appropriate online teaching skills
and know how to use the current learning management system (LMS) in
order to teach Virtual College courses. College Training and Development
offers a series of workshops to help faculty acquire these skills.
The following courses are highly recommended for faculty who wish to
prepare to effectively teach Virtual College courses: Overview of Online
Teaching (12 hours), WebCT Skills Introduction (6 hours), and WebCT
Students Management (3 hours).
Objectives
As a result of successful completion of the
workshop, participants will be able to:
- Create and Archive a library of announcements
- Populate calendar with first month assignments
using public settings, links, and details
- Create tests that have settings that follow VC
and Testing Center Guidelines
- Set up gradebook to match assignments and grading
schema
- Add a calculated field and an alphanumeric fields
to communicate the final grade
- Submit curse retention plan using VC template
- Self-check course before VC course sweep

How to Register
Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and
Registration system. The process for registering for a CTD
workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.
You can access the Registration System and register
for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to
login to your computer. Example: Richard
Johnson would be rjohnson (You will
NOT
need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD
workshop)
Make a note of the Reference Number for the
workshop then go to
Registration Instructions
Once you have registered for a class, you can print your
schedule. Please make every effort to attend once
you've registered as seats are limited.
However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web
Registration screen. CTD classes will
appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
If you need special assistance to
