Description:
Many professionals fear controversy or conflict about openly addressing ender and orientation even with their closest friends or co-workers. This silence can perpetuate misinformation and  contribute to an organizational climate of invisibility. Participants will learn how YES Institute uses a powerful model of communication to engage participants in authentic and open  discussions that include all viewpoints and beliefs. These dialogues give people the opportunity to publicly speak their fears, concerns and questions, often for the first time. Once misinformation and fears have been addressed, people begin to generate solutions and take actions to ensure the healthy development of all patients.
 
 Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Review the current literature about health and mental health inequities facing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender populations
• Differentiate between the concepts of biologically assigned sex, gender, and orientation
• Describe the experiences of guest speakers who faced health challenges related to gender and orientation
• Describe practices (vocabulary, discourse, intake forms, etc) in the healthcare environment to address client experiences on gender and sexual orientation
• Describe the current medical, legal, and insurance company practices that impact outcomes for a gender transitioning client
• Describe the medical and mental health resources in the community for individual and family care coordination

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop) 

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
