Description:
Textbook author and Houghton-Mifflin ESL Specialist, Joann Kozyrev will
present "Holistic Approaches to Oral Communication
Skills." Oral Communication is comprised of many
interconnected elements, such as conversational fluency, grammatical
accuracy, and clear pronunciation. Although they sometimes operate
separately, these skills are all inherently related. This workshop
will engage participants in the development of useful pedagogical
strategies for teaching oral communication skills.

Development Credit.
Objectives
As a result of successful completion of the
workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand how listening, speaking,
accuracy, and fluency work together to form the whole that is oral
communication
- Know how to provide students
with a framework to build both fluency and accuracy in their
listening and speaking skills
- Understand how to completely integrate
listening, speaking and pronunciation practice
- Maintain flexibility in oral
communication skills instructional techniques to accommodate
students' varying needs and interests
Notes
This workshop is appropriate for all full and part-time instructors
of English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Vocational English as a Second
Language ((VESL), and non-credit English as a Second Language (ESL)
courses.
It will be presented in partnership with Houghton-Mifflin Publishing.
Houghton-Mifflin will be responsible for contracting the workshop
facilitator.

How to Register
Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and
Registration system. The process for registering for a CTD
workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.
You can access the Registration System and register
for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to
login to your computer. Example: Richard
Johnson would be rjohnson (You will
NOT
need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD
workshop)
Make a note of the Reference Number for the
workshop then go to
Registration Instructions
Once you have registered for a class, you can print your
schedule. Please make every effort to attend once
you've registered as seats are limited.
However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web
Registration screen. CTD classes will
appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
If you need special assistance to
participate in this workshop due to a disability, please call CT&D at
