Description:
This workshop presents strategies that support students in completing
courses such as: curriculum and instructional design, assessment,
out-of-class assignments, and promotion of faculty-student,
student-student academic relations. They learn strategies to
reduce and/or manage stress and anxiety, particularly in testing
situations or other assessment environments. Participants are encouraged
to bring with them past or present challenges from the classroom that
are related to student retention and test anxiety. This seminar is
co-sponsored by CTD and Learning Agenda Innovations in Students
Services.

Objectives
As a result of successful completion of the
workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain their faculty roles in increasing student
persistence by applying the key factors for retention as validated
in research to their classroom teaching and other interactions with
their students
- Describe three ways they can incorporate active
learning into their courses and increase meaningful peer interaction
- Describe three ways they can increase the quality
and quantity of their interactions with students and still have a
life outside the college
- Describe three ways they can incorporate "how to
learn" strategies (metacognition) into their classroom learning
experiences without losing "teaching time"
- Describe two outside assignments that will
increase peer interaction out of class, require active and deep
learning, and increase student participation in class
- Explain how small changes in instructional
delivery can affect a large increase in quality of student learning
and course completion
- Describe strategies they can incorporate in their
teaching that help students reduce test anxiety

How to Register
Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and
Registration system. The process for registering for a CTD
workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.
You can access the Registration System and register
for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to
login to your computer. Example: Richard
Johnson would be rjohnson (You will
NOT
need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD
workshop)
Make a note of the Reference Number for the
workshop then go to
Registration Instructions
Once you have registered for a class, you can print your
schedule. Please make every effort to attend once
you've registered as seats are limited.
However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web
Registration screen. CTD classes will
appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
If you need special assistance to
