Description:
The Oral Communication Activities to Improve Pronunciation workshop is designed to introduce EAP faculty to segmental and supra-segmental aspects of non-native speakers English pronunciation. Participants will practice the recognition of elements of prosody, such as stress, phrasing, rhythm, and intonation, and will listen to speech samples to help analyze strengths and weaknesses. Ms. Chan will also discuss best practices for providing positive feedback and correction to English learners.

In order to receive Professional Development Credit participants will complete an online module, which consists of creating a lesson plan integrating grammar with writing and content for any EAP Level within two weeks of the workshops. A member of the Project ACE Curriculum Writers Workshop will assess each lesson plan and evaluate each participant's completion.

 
 Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Articulate the philosophy and purposes of oral communication activities for EAP students
• Use a variety of strategies to  integrate oral communication activities in other content areas
• Develop teaching material that can be used for authentic communication outside of the classroom
• Create a lesson related to the Oral Communication Activities to Improve Pronunciation

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop) 

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
