Description
:
This annual symposium-seminar supports faculty in updating their knowledge base in the discipline of EAP-E and English in order to contribute to creating exceptional learning environments and program review and improvement. The seminar provides networking and partnership opportunities with other language teaching professionals and supports faculty to develop enhanced teaching strategies for listening, speaking, reading and writing skill areas. Current research, methodologies and socio-cultural issues in the field are presented and discussed for application in classes and programs.

In order to earn the FPD credit, participants will post a classroom application of a new idea for teaching and learning or a new teaching strategy to a shared web location via a form located at: http://tinyurl.com/mdtesolbaf within two weeks of the symposium. This electronic form can be completed on-site with provided laptops, or after the seminar at an off-site location. Dr. Cynthia Schuemann, MD-TESOL Liaison/Community Partner Contact for MDC, will review the work submitted and verify completion of the assignment

 
 Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss current research in ESL-EAP
  • Identify new ideas and resources for teaching and learning
  • Develop teaching strategies appropriate for learning objectives
  • State how new learning form the symposium can be applied

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
