* Approved CT&D Workshop for Faculty Professional Development hours.

Description:
Workshop participants will become familiar with several types of assessment to measure college readiness. Activities include using EAP resources to create questionnaires, helping students to understand differences between formal and informal English, teaching students how to avoid common mistakes, and integrating language skills. Faculty will leave the workshop with a clearer understanding about how to apply assessments to improve language learning, while identifying how measures of college readiness provides insight on the effectiveness of the EAP program curriculum.

In order to receive Professional Development Credits participants will complete an online module, which consists of creating a lesson plan integrating assessment and content. Participants will also identify how measures of college readiness can inform program level assessment.


 
 Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate the philosophy and purpose of applying assessment to measure college readiness
  • Describe the factors of different types of assessments and other alternatives to measure college readiness
  • Create an assessment for an EAP lesson or an EAP course
  • Consider how measures of college readiness can support program learning outcomes assessment

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
