Workshop: Simulators for Cardiovascular Physiology

Course ID - CTD0473c

Short Title: Simulators

 Audience    Faculty
Length of Workshop:       6 hours (3 face-to-face and 3 post workshop hours)

* Approved CT&D Workshop for Faculty Professional Development hours.

This workshop will allow faculty to learn the operation of computer driven models on Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory. The workshop will address Learning Outcomes #3 Creative-Critical Thinking and Scientific Reasoning, and #8 Computer and Technology Usage.
Faculty will be able to use the information to incorporate into BSC 2085, BSC 2085L, 2086, 1086L, and in the human physiology courses of the bachelor in Biology among others. Faculty and staff will participate in a lecture and hands-on laboratory discussion in the operation of computer driven manikins, and learn how to use the equipment in Anatomy and Physiology classes. Prior to the workshop, faculty will prepare a review of physiological parameters that are used by the software. During the workshop they will participate in the set-up of the equipment. The participants will then run a physiological scenario, integrating the cardiovascular and anatomical functions selected previously. The facilitator will develop a debriefing session about the usage of this equipment, the applicability of the computer drive physiological simulation, and the integration of this technology with the Laboratory of the Clinical Simulation at Medical Center Campus and other campuses as well.
Faculty will develop a lab that incorporates assessment of the cardiovascular physiology, and submit written lesson plan to the facilitator for review of accuracy. Lesson plans will be due within two weeks of the workshop. There is also a pre-workshop activity, faculty will receive the material necessary to prepare for the training in advance.

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  •  Operate computer driven manikins
  •  Incorporate simulation technology in Anatomy and Physiology classes
  •  Create normal, and abnormal cardiovascular physiology scenarios
  •  Promote the active participation of students in laboratories of physiology

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.

If you need special assistance to participate in this workshop due to a disability, please call CT&D at 7-2366 so that appropriate arrangements can be made.  College Training and Development complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
