Description:
The goal of the
project CRISS (Creating Independence through Student –owned Strategies)
is to equip students with a vast toolkit of learning strategies and with
the knowledge to create strategic plans for all learning tasks they
might encounter in school, work, and beyond. Through teacher modeling
and guidance, students learn how to learn. Project CRISS advocates
active, multi-sensory, and metacognitive teaching and learning.
Accordingly, CRISS transforms the traditional “lecture and test”
classroom into a stimulating, dynamic learning environment. Recent
advances in brain compatible learning substantiate the merits of this
philosophy and help explain the project’s success, longevity, and
national proliferation.

As a result of successful completion of the
workshop, participants will be able to:
-
Identify the

-
Foster participant involvement
with CRISS Strategic Learning Plans which incorporate a variety of
reading, writing, orhanizing, and vocabulary strategies
-
Develop assessment techniques for
measuring metacognitive learning
-
Develop a variety of active,
multi-sensory and metacognitive learning plans
