Description
:
The goal of project  CRISS (Creating Independence through Student –owned Strategies) is to equip students with a vast toolkit of learning strategies and how to apply these to learning tasks they encounter in school, work, and beyond. Through teacher modeling and the use of the Framework for Learning, students learn how to learn. Project CRISS advocates active, multi-sensory, and metacognitive teaching and learning. Accordingly, CRISS transforms the traditional “lecture and test” classroom into a stimulating, dynamic learning environment. Recent advances in brain compatible learning substantiate the merits of this pedagogy and help explain the project’s research base, success, longevity, and national proliferation.

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key principles of the Project CRISS philosophy and principles such as the Elements of Metacognition, Framework for Teaching, Framework for  Learning, Modeling & Guided Practice, and Teaching for Understanding
  • Foster participant involvement through creation and use of the Project CRISS Strategic Learning Plans which incorporates Planning for Instruction, Preparing for Student Learning, Engaging with Content Transforming Information, and Reflection on Teaching & Learning.
  • Develop assessment techniques for measuring metacognitive learning
