Workshop: Clickable Math Syntax-Free MapleCourse ID - CTD0495b
|
| Audience | Faculty |
| Length of Workshop: | 2 hours |
| Prerequisite |
* Approved CT&D Workshop for Faculty Professional Development hours.
Description:
This session will teach participants how to use Maple in a syntax-free
manner to solve problems drawn from algebra, trigonometry, precalculus,
and single-variable calculus. Interface features such as palettes,
tutors, Assistants, task templates, and the context menu system flatten
the learning curve for Maple, making it possible to calculate without
first having to master commands and the related syntax. Participants
will learn the basic features of Maple how to write and interactive
document in Maple how to use the palettes, tutors, Assistants, task
templates, and the context menu system in support of
syntax-free calculations how to use point-and-click technologies
for solving standard problems in algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, and
calculus of a single variable. The lecture will be interactive,
with participants using lap top computers to solve mathematical problems
and create visual representations of mathematical concepts to facilitate
learning and inspire more students to pursue STEM fields. Faculty
participants will complete printed worksheets to demonstrate competence
of the objectives listed above. These worksheets will be completed
during the workshop. A committee consisting of Quin Hearn, North Campus
Chairperson of Mathematics, and faculty of her choice will evaluate the
faculty product for completion of the above objectives.
