This workshop will provide an overview of the daily responsibilities and tasks performed by Advisement Services college-wide.  This is not a how-to-Advise session, but instead an opportunity to learn what Advisement does and how it relates to the Student Services division as a whole.  A question and answer session will also be included for any topics not covered below.


 As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how Advisement provides services for FTIC (First-Time-In-College), undeclared, and students in SOAP categories
  • Describe Advisement Services role in the new student orientation process
  • Refer students for major changes
  • Explain the course substitution process
  • Explain the graduation application process
  • Describe the student referral process
  • Identify liaisons for academic areas
  • Identify student registration problems
  • Explain the importance of choosing a major
  • Identify where faculty and staff can obtain Advisement training
  • Explain the  transfer process
  • Explain the advantages of establishing an Individualized Educational Plan
  • Explain the benefits of graduating before transferring vs. transferring without an A.A. degree
  • Explain the career services resources and tools available for students

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
