Description:
This workshop is designed for faculty interested in authentic assessment and becoming more active in the College wide Student Learning Outcomes initiatives. Prior to the workshop, participants will review pre-workshop material to become familiar with the tools, terminology, and useful scoring guides.   During the workshop, faculty will identify and discuss authentic assessment at the classroom level, learn the difference between traditional and authentic assessment, principles of good practice, and how to develop authentic assessment tasks and scoring guides.

By the conclusion of this workshop, each participant will have developed an authentic assessment. In order to receive FPD credit, all required activities must be completed and submitted by due dates. 

 

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Effectively use assessment terminology

  • Describe the MDC Student Learning Outcomes initiatives
  • Explain the principles behind and design of various rubrics
  • Describe the differences between traditional and authentic assessment
  • Explain the principles of effective assessment practice
  • Develop an authentic assessment for one of the ten college-wide learning outcomes to be implemented in a current or upcoming course.

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
