Description:
International students are an important and vibrant part of our campuses today. And, according to recent reports, international students are coming to the US in increasing numbers.  Like “traditional” students, international students require services, support and opportunities to succeed. Institutions are beginning to think past the “traditional” international student services office and looking at ways they can make offices and departments more service and support friendly to international students.
 

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • List and describe characteristics associated with some of the diverse groups of individuals who can be classified as "International Students"
  • Explain some of the common fears and expectations expressed by international students
  • List and describe some choices and behaviors that international students must understand as related to safety and security
  • Explain colleges' responsibility regarding international student safety
  • List and describe some strategies to educate international students on the variety of academic and co-curricular resources available to them
  • Describe how to create a welcoming and educational environment for both international and domestic students on campus

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
