Description: The purpose of this three-day orientation is to provide a comprehensive program of information and explanation for participants before they start their new jobs.  The orientation will cover information about the College, its students, the faculty role, and policies and procedures associated with being a College employee.  It is scheduled at a time when there are not conflicts with other meetings or classes so that everyone will be able to attend.

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe MDC's organizational structure, mission, vision and values
  • Describe the characteristics of MDC students and implications for faculty
  • Describe our role in serving students
  • Explain the College's expectations of new faculty
  • Explain the role of faculty in creating a respectful learning and working environment
  • Describe the various professional development opportunities that are available to MDC faculty
  • Explain my contractual compensation/benefits
  • Understand the importance of becoming familiar with students' rights and responsibilities
  • Describe faculty contractual obligations
  • Explain the purpose and ramifications of the Learning Agenda
  • Describe strategies for promoting successes among diverse student population
  • Develop a course syllabus based upon recommended MDC guidelines
  • Explain the importance of developing a culture of evidence which align student learning assessments with course competencies

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
