Description:
The presenter will provide a practical guide for workshop participants
serving culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) populations.
Participants will learn how to plan and implement more successful
culturally responsive instruction using student biographies. The
presenter will provide participants with information on how they can use
biographies to tap into the strengths students bring from their
sociocultural, linguistic, cognitive, and academic histories and how to
use biographies and prior knowledge and achievements to accelerate
learning.
Plan of Evaluation:
I. Application of knowledge to the classroom setting (1 hour) - A
learning Community of faculty wishing to earn professional credit will
be formed directly after the workshop. The Learning Community will
contextualize the workshop and discuss how to field test these
strategies in their classrooms. Each will create an action or lesson
plan.
II. Analysis of application of knowledge (2 hours) - After field testing
these strategies by implementing the action (or) lesson plan, each
participants will write a reflection paper that discusses what was
planned, what actually occurred, students responses to this methodology,
similarities and differences noted in the lesson, and plans to improve
tor the future. The Learning Community will reconvene within two weeks
to de-brief the reflection papers and will discuss practical issues
related to the workshop. The assignment will be reviewed and certified
as complete by SOE personnel and posted to a School of Education PET
Project PD Sharepoint Site.

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system. The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.
You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer. Example: Richard Johnson would be rjohnson (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop)
Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions
Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule. Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited. However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen. CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
