NBC Learn for Higher Education - CTD Resource Page

See the moments, hear the people, and witness our history in the making.

Now available to all Miami Dade College students, faculty, and staff, NBC Learn's vast collection of videos, images, and documents brings new life and perspective to the sciences, history, current events, and more.

What is NBC Learn?

NBC Learn is a rich, dynamic, and innovative resource that provides thousands of historic news reports, current events stories, original content, primary source documents, and other digital media specifically designed to help teach and engage students of all levels and abilities.

How to get started:  Two ways to access NBCLearn -  MDC (or MyMDC) Logon and in ANGEL

MDC and MyMDC logon

Go to http://www.mdc.edu/nbclearn

Log on with MDC username and password

Search for Content or explore the Collections.

Share links to videos or playlists.  When a shared link is clicked, logon will be required.   Once someone logs on with MDC credentials, they will be taken directly to the video or playlist that was shared.   (Do not link it in PowerPoint. Instead, open a Browser and paste the Share link. Or, save the videos in your playlist on the NBC Learn site and play them your playlis.t)

ANGEL

NBC Learn resources and videos are now available without a separate logon inside of any ANGEL Course.    Faculty can embed NBC Learn Resources in ANGEL anywhere the Editing Toolbar appears.    See picture below.           When faculty provide this resource to students in an ANGEL course, no extra login is necessary.     Videos can be embedded in Content Pages, Dropbox instructions, Discussions, Assessment questions, etc.    Students can also embed and share videos in Discussion Posts. Just click the NBC icon to access the Collections and Search tools. After locating a video, click the Embed link on the Cue Card.

The Cue Card

Once you locate and click on a video, it will open and play in a Cue Card. The Cue Card can be enlarged and also played full screen. In addition to the full text transcript and close captioning options, the reverse side of the Cue Card provides access to descriptive information, including date and copyright information, keywords, and APA, MLA and Chicago Manual of Style information formats.     In the ANGEL implementation, the Save Option is replaced with Embed - which inserts the video directly into the ANGEL content item.
