Miami Residency

Artist in Residency Michelle Ellsworth

Before any performance is ready for the stage, artists need time, money and space to create their work. This year, Miami Dade College will work with performance artist, choreographer and writer
Michelle Ellsworth by providing commissioning support for her performance of The Objectification of Things.

The Objectification of Things will have its premiere in Miami as part of the 2008-09 Cultura del Lobo Performance Series. It is part performance art, part ritual and part techno extravaganza,
and its purpose is to illuminate the importance and impact mere objects have in our lives. Too often “things” are dismissed as soulless or inanimate. To these familiar charges, Ellsworth reminds
us that no person or animal has the reliability and predictability of most objects.

This project is made possible in part by a grant from the National Performance Network’s Performance Residency Program. Major contributors of the National Performance Network include the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, Altria and the Nathan Cummings Foundation.
