The Living Word Project/Marc Bamuthi Joseph
the break/s
the break/s is a multimedia excursion across planet hip-hop, presented in verse, dance and film, which dramatically realizes the living history of the hip-hop generation through the performed personal narrative of poet Marc Bamuthi Joseph. the break/s features Joseph’s remarkable range of movement and method, and is influenced by Jeff Chang’s Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, a 2005 American Book Award winner. Along with DJ EXCESS and percussionist Tommy Shepherd, Joseph continues to explore thematic ideas that he has mined for years, and brings these investigations into a global arena.
“Rarely do word and movement mesh so seamlessly and elegantly that
the audience is left with the thought that drives them. But such is the
case with Marc Bamuthi Joseph whose stories put sound and gesture on
a single continuum of expression...”
